The Wonder Years [001]

This location is right in the heart of my hometown (Trenton, NJ). Not the best place to live however, home to some of the greatest memories in my heart. Remember how as a child you kept hearing "One day you're gonna wish you were a kid."? I never thought I'd look back & reminisce on those times. One moment you're sharing crayons with your very first friend and the next you're forced to share your food with your husband & children- ha!.

My neighborhood was different back then. We looked out for one another. We were family. We had friends, real friends. No facebook. Just double-dutch. Tag, Truth/Dare, & Chinese Jump rope. I remember riding my bike all day with a basket that my neighbor installed, mini radio on blast, Spice Girl cassettes that I made recording from the radio, & just enough money to buy snacks until dinner.

My bike was my car. My friends were my family. School was my career. My allowance was my paycheck. Aaliyah was my name. Usher was my boo. My mirror was my audience & my hairbrush was my microphone. Life was grand...and I didn't even know it.

Those moments happened in every town, in every state, in every country. Not just mine. But it sure feels good to have those pure memories. Those times will last forever in our hearts. Man, those times...

Good times.

I absolutely love my life and how much I've grown. I have 2 beautiful boys & a loving fiance. I work for an awesome company helping children, I have a small non-profit that services 35 girls, & I am a model/photographer. I wouldn't change a thing. I will continue to grow. I will continue to learn. I am reaching my goals!

But sometimes I sit & think about the years I was raised...Back In The Days.

Curvily Ever After: Live Taping

Hey! Welcome back to CBB. Thanks for visiting. I know I usually say this at the end but I thought I'd switch it up & let you know I appreciate you stopping by. I want to share with you some behind the scenes photos from a bridal segment I was featured in last week. The show 'Ginger New York' airs in Manhattan & is live! I wore the most gorgeous gown design by Sherita Jennings (VisceraNY). Viscera NY is a womenswear line focused in demi-couture evening wear. Her designs are true to size and also Curvy-Friendly! Don't I look like a happy bride?

As you can see we had a blast! I was nervous about the show being live but as soon as I got to set, I snapped into model mode. I love my photog! he did an amazing job. Kudos to Brittnie Scurry on the retouching. Wait, that's me. Oh ok. Ha!

I had the pleasure of walking in Sean Anthony Design's 2014 Fashion Showcase- It's All About The City last week! I had such a great time at this event. I was nervous at first being on the 50th floor but it was such a beautiful sight.I absolutely loved the new line. It was super fun, colorful, & sexy. The new bombers are everything! Aspire To Inspire: The Overcomer (Nigeria)

People told me that I was ugly. They told me I was worthless. I hated smiling. I didn't think I would ever be happy. For years I would cut myself. I still have the scars. I was depressed. I really believed I was a nobody.

About 2 yrs ago, I stopped cutting when I saw my little brother do it. That was my breaking point. It brought tears to my eyes. Then he said "Now you see how I feel." I will never cut again.

Now, I am getting to know myself. I am 16. My name is Nigeria. I think I am beautiful. I wore a dress today. My friend straightened my hair. Ms.Brittnie took my pictures. I feel like a model too. I feel very pretty. I didn't even cover my arms.
